Our Work

Community Pharmacy South East London (CPSEL) represents and supports community pharmacy contractors across South-East London. Our role is to ensure that pharmacy teams are recognised, supported, and able to deliver high-quality care to local communities. We work closely with NHS organisations, Integrated Care Systems (ICS), local authorities, and other healthcare partners to make sure community pharmacy is embedded in local healthcare planning and decision-making. This includes shaping services, influencing strategy, and advocating for the vital role pharmacies play in improving access to care.

A key part of our work is supporting contractors to deliver both national and locally commissioned services. We provide guidance, resources, and practical support to help pharmacies navigate changes, meet contractual requirements, and deliver safe, effective services for patients. We also focus on workforce development, helping to ensure pharmacy teams have access to training, development opportunities, and the information they need to adapt to an evolving healthcare landscape.

Engagement is central to everything we do. We maintain regular communication with pharmacy teams, listen to feedback, and represent their views at a system level. At the same time, we support collaboration between pharmacies and wider healthcare providers to improve patient outcomes and reduce pressure on other parts of the NHS.

How we are developing community pharmacy

By working more closely with established networks — including the local SE London health and wellbeing champion service — and services, such as blood pressure checks, post-discharge stop smoking services, and weight management services, pharmacies can lead the way in helping our population stay healthy and help identify disease earlier.

The GP-Community Pharmacy Consultation Service, in which GPs refer patients to pharmacies for minor ailments, is undertaking more and more appointments on behalf of GPs per month across south east London.  We aim to increase this further by strengthening our community pharmacy leadership year on year.

Our growing, robust community pharmacy infrastructure across south east London, will bring further integration with Primary Care Network (PCN).
